DOORS 6PM // KITCHEN OPEN // STARTS 7.30PM // GUESTS JAKOB HOHWY, TENZIN CHOEGYAL & MARIA MOLES

After a sell-out season of shows across London, New York and Melbourne, the Sophia Club returns to take audiences on an immersive journey of ideas, conversation and performance.

Bring your self to mind

‘Know thyself’ is the original philosophical injunction, but what does that mean? We all experience the world through the lens of our own perceptions, values and beliefs – in short, through our consciousness. How can we go about understanding what consciousness is? And how might we change our minds through practices of reflection and contemplation, bringing more peace and attentiveness into our lives?

Join philosopher Jakob Hohwy and Aeon Media’s editorial director Brigid Hains to explore the frontiers of consciousness and contemplative practices, and experience the transportive sounds of masterful Tibetan singer/songwriter Tenzin Choegyal and percussive virtuoso Maria Moles.

ABOUT SOPHIA CLUB

Everyone has a stake in philosophy; its vitality can be drawn out and re-energised through conversation, with each other, and the arts. The Sophia Club creates a space for people to come together, ponder big questions, encounter new perspectives, and appreciate the rich connections between thought, emotions and artistic expression.

We call this space Live Philosophy.

Previous Sophia Club artists include Lior, Mindy Meng Wang, John Zorn and JACK Quartet, Kit Downes and Joseph Tawadros. Our speakers have included Simon Critchley, Lea Ypi, Michael-Shawn Fletcher and Manvir Singh.

The Sophia Club is the latest venture from Aeon Media, the publisher of Aeon and Psyche magazines. To be the first to hear about our event program, follow us on Instagram @sophiaclub_live and sign up to our newsletter at sophiaclub.co.

Our events are produced on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Woiworung language group of the Kulin Nation, and we respectfully acknowledge the traditional custodians. We value the knowledge traditions and rich practice of philosophy among Aboriginal and and Torres Strait Islander communities in Australia, and all First Nations peoples around the world.
