BIKINI KILL. LIVE IN ADELAIDE

Queens of the punk rock neighbourhood.

Kathleen, Kathi, Tobi and Billy arrived in Olympia, Washington in 1990, defiantly eyeballing the patriarchy, calling out the scene’s macho BS. Demanding space on the stage, reclaiming space off it, agitating for social change.

Armed with squalling, snarling, righteous anthems, they implored grrrls to pick up guitars, start bands, write zines, have each other’s backs.

Double Dare Ya. I Like Fucking. White Boy. New Radio. Manifestos of solidarity that built a feminist counterculture of such indelible impact, it didn’t just blaze a trail, it tore up the rulebook.

Debut, Pussy Whipped, is a punk rock classic, chalking up 24 minutes and 48 seconds of incendiary noise, pulverising lyricism and sly melodic turns that shook the foundations and changed music forever.

Led ferociously by The Punk Singer Kathleen Hannah, Bikini Kill embodied Revolution Girl Style. Whether inspiring Nirvana or nicking guitars in Sonic Youth vids, she was an iconic, era-defining provocateur.

Twenty years later, Bikini Kill are back. Their timing, just perfect.

‘We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Kaurna people, the traditional custodians of their ancestral lands this event will take place on.’
