Barunga Festival, which sees thousands of people gather to celebrate Aboriginal culture, art, music and sport, will not go ahead in 2020, as a precautionary measure over the community’s COVID-19 concerns. Instead, this year’s resources will be committed to the massive return of the festival from 11-13 June 2021.

“It is with great sadness that we inform you that Barunga Festival 2020 has now been cancelled. After consultation with the Barunga committee, we feel it is in the best interest of the Barunga community that it not go ahead this year. We look forward to bringing you a bigger and better festival in 2021!” said Skinnyfish Music Events Coordinator, Brad Firebrace.

By focusing attention and resources on next year’s festival we will ensure the safety of our remote communities, while also giving us the opportunity to put on the biggest event the region has ever since once we’re able to come back together, after everything is safe, and celebrate the way we know Barunga can! Skinnyfish Music are looking forward to hosting you all in 2021.

2021 will feature the world-class music, sport and culture that Barunga is known for, with a full program and further updates to be released later. Mark your diary, book your travel and we’ll see you next year.
