Singer-songwriter Paul Kelly and film-maker Rachel Perkins have a friendship stretching back nearly 25 years since they first worked together on the acclaimed film One Night The Moon. They have travelled together and sat around campfires many times with friends, talking and singing.

In Nipaluna/Hobart this Friday 29 September, they will gather at In The Hanging Garden, with local singer-songwriter Madelena and Uncle Rodney Dillon, to create that campfire feeling with an evening of song, stories and talk.

With the upcoming Referendum on an Indigenous Voice a little over two weeks away, expect that crucial moment in our history to be one of the main topics, but not necessarily the only one.

Bring your friends, bring your open hearts and minds, bring your questions! Please also warm up your singing voices for a night of camaraderie, discussion and good humour.

 Paul says, “I always like hanging out with Rachel. She’s one of the funniest & warmest people I know. And full of surprises. With a bit of luck and a glass or two of red I might even coax her to sing a Hank Williams song with me.”

Rachel says, “It took a while to normalise the great privilege of singing 'round the campfire with Paul Kelly, perhaps our most accomplished and prolific of songwriters. But after a few decades it remains one of the great pleasures of my life. There is much to talk about in the upcoming Referendum and many questions to discuss, and I can’t think of a better way to do it, than with a song or two, and a glass of red in hand.”
