Event Details

Melbourne band Empress’ swirling vocal harmonies and captivating synth-based electronic dance grooves have helped them build a reputation as a live force, now returning to the Night Cat to launch their debut album, this is an unmissable performance. Joined by live electronic/spiritual sensation Kuzco, Empress are excited to be back from their hibernation.

Packed with wondrous sounds and intriguing sonic ideas, the six-piece collective is explosive in their musical output and live performances. Drawing from a wide-range of influences, varying from Tune Yards and Destiny's Child to James Blake, KAYTRANADA, Bjork and Dirty Projectors, Empress creates a distinct and diverse sound.

Led by female vocal trio Grace Robinson, Stella Dunai and Matilda Pungitore alongside bassist Noah Hutchinson, drummer Matt Dooley and keyboardist Christy Wozitsky-Jones, Empress weave together an intimate tapestry of sisterhood synergy, lush, soulful harmonies and mesmerizing melodies with a richly textured production backdrop fit for both the dance floor and bedroom. Their latest album “Daughter” fuses together elements of neo-soul and deep house, swirling with hypnotic synths, intricate percussion, and deep, potent bass lines. Empress have played stages across the country, charming audiences at Panama Festival, Sun Cycle, Dark Mofo, St Kilda Festival and more.

Empress will be joined by Kuzco.
