“If you ever need to impress someone, take them to an Andy Clockwise show. They’ll never forget it!” Chris Muckley, KCRW

Andy Clockwise and his band are returning to Sydney for a special one-off show at the Lansdowne Hotel on March 31st.

This time last year, Sydney born, LA-based Indie Rock Troubadour Andy Clockwise was in Memphis, Tennessee on a 30 date tour of the south and midwest of the USA - but, COVID had other plans. After the cancellation, Andy and his all Australian ex-pat band packed up their things in Los Angeles and headed home. Taking to a farm just outside of Sydney, Andy has recorded, played, mixed, and produced his long-awaited record, “War Stories”. This 4 volume behemoth of stoic poetry, insightful new wave, and folk-tinged electronica has been a lifetime in the making.

At the height of the late 00’s/10’s, during his Triple J feature album period and the onslaught of Song Exhibition and Classic FM, Clockwise moved to LA with an acoustic guitar and a laptop to play small dive bars, and quickly built himself as a local Los Angeles tour de force. He reached national acclaim after a Spaceland residency (which propelled the careers of such talent as Beck, Rilo Kiley, Silversun Pickups, Local Natives and Cold War Kids) was featured on NPR: all things considered, sold out nights at the Troubadour (Elton John and Tom Waits) and was given local and national radio play on KROQ FM & KCRW. Clockwise had created so much buzz that PRINCE himself even came to check out the show! The purple one approved.

Adding to his back catalog of indie anthems “Every Song” and “Home feat. Bertie Blackman”, came international song highlights “Remember Love” “Open Relationship Feat. Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint)” “Hopeless Feat. Holly Valance” “Dancing World”  and numerous other cult classics charting success in the USA/UK and Australia, and featured in major Hollywood film & Television productions.

War Stories is a several volume odyssey about the battles that we put ourselves through. Real and unreal. An Odyssey, spanning 36 tracks of classic pop/new wave/folk and 80’s post-punk. Made in his Hollywood Hills studio in LA and Boulevard Recording (Pink Floyd/Fleetwood Mac) as well as during stints in London and Sydney, it features work by Omar Yakar (War On Drugs) Drew Erickson (Tim Heidecker, Roger Waters) JT Thomas (Captain Beefheart) Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint, Kurt Vile)  and Jade Macrae. War Stories will be released this year on Exhibition Records.

Apart from Andy’s ever-expanding reputable songbook, his live shows have been described as “if Mick Jagger, Beck and a mad scientist had a love child, it would be Andy Clockwise - a perfect storm of rock, charm and swagger" - Tobi, KCRW, 98.7FM, XM Radio, Amazing Radio

As the reviews put it…

" that rock is very much alive, having evolved into some James Murphy–dreamed electronic soundscape incorporating elements of everything from post-punk and new wave to spacious (and spacey) prog rock." - Flood Magazine

"Splitting the difference between the massive sonics of 80s electro-ballads and the expansive storytelling of rock and roll, Andy Clockwise’s latest “War Stories” is an ambitious attempt to tackle the sheer breadth of life —and boy, does he nail it..... LCD Soundsystem meets Springsteen collision of sound and style, aided by the thrilling energy of Clockwise’s anthemic crooning and riveting electronica." - Grimy Goods

Sounds like refined Beck with a tad of Morrissey’s wit thrown in for good measure. This is the kind of ‘indie’ that speaks to more than just hipsters. It’s genuinely hip with a bewildering brilliance that warrants numerous listens.” - Artist Direct

"Between thunderous percussion gallops and synth-bursts Andy Clockwise details a tale on love, life, and grief that is as timeless as it is so particular affecting in the modern era." - Grimy Goods

"Calling out debauchery, artifice and other sundry aspects of L.A. life. For his new music, Clockwise finds touchstones in 1980s post-punk and New Wave — think New Order, as narrated by weighty baritone of an arena rocker.” - BUZZBANDS.LA
