West Thebarton Brothel Party // Supports TBA
Adelaide's West Thebarton Brothel Party today give you the second single - the swaggering slacker anthem 'Dolewave' - from their new 7" out through Clarity Records.
Coming off the back of a run of shows earlier this year (including Groovin' The Moo, the JD Future Legends 'Next On Tour' showcase, and Adelaide's 'A Day Of Clarity' Festival), West Thebarton Brothel Party are back with a new single, a national tour (including BIGSOUND 2016), and the announcement of their signing to one of Australia's premier booking agencies, 123 Agency.
With their new single 'Dolewave', the band makes light of society's tendency to apply reductive labels to emerging genres of music:
"The main thing I want to say about 'Dolewave' is that it's a song that riffs on how we as a band and other bands who may sound like us are labelled with something that we don't really identify with. I feel like the term 'dolewave' is a reductive one that society or critics think is a 'cool, groovy' compliment, and tends to be used to identify a whole sound and approach to music. Some might see being an artist on the dole as a romantic lifestyle choice. I've lived on the dole before, and it's not glamorous, but some people on the outside tend to think that it's really romantic, carefree and that all artists on the dole do is party all the time, drink all the time and do whatever they want without consequence. This song comes from being frustrated by that lifestyle, and from being uncomfortable with a label that attempts to lump the diversity of all the bands living like that into one 'scene'." Ray Dalfsen (vocals/guitar)
After being named as '15 Artists to Watch' by The AU Review in 2015, and triple j Unearthed also tipping their hat in their 'Ones to Watch in 2016' list, West Thebarton Brothel Party have not disappointed.
The last six months have seen the Adelaide 7-piece release their single 'Red Or White' to critical praise and significant national and community radio play, with the track being added to triple j after premiering on Home and Hosed, and receiving a follow up feature play on Richard Kingsmill's '2016' program in the same week. Shortly after, the Thebbos were chosen to open Groovin' The Moo in Oakbank, were triple j Unearthed's 'Feature Artist', and co-headlined Adelaide's 'A Day Of Clarity' Festival along with The Hard-Ons.
PRAISE FOR 'RED OR WHITE'
"WTBP bringing more brutal punk rock to my speakers is always a good thing." - Nick Findlay, Triple J
"It is quintessential West Theb: brash, energetic, restless, relentless." - Dom Alessio, Triple J
"a fuzz-heavy four-pronged guitar attack with a rumbling three-part rhythm section to deliver chaotic garage rock reminiscent of Radio Birdman and The Sunnyboys." - Bombshellzine
"in typical WTBP fashion it's an all out guitar - driven sonic assault" - Tonedeaf
"it's an impressive cut from a band on the rise" - The AU Review
Nominated as 'Best Live Act' at the South Australian Music Awards in 2015, the band has also performed alongside international acts Wavves (USA) and Cloud Nothings (USA) as well as Australian artists - Courtney Barnett, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, British India, Northeast Party House, Philadelphia Grand Jury and Velociraptor.
West Thebarton Brothel Party will follow up the release of 'Red or White' with 'Dolewave', the second single from its forthcoming double a-side 7" vinyl out through Clarity Records on Friday, 2 September 2016.
To celebrate its release, the band will embark on the Four More Years tour - a national tour with seven dates throughout September / October including BIGSOUND and several interstate festivals.
