Wow. Where has the year gone? On Saturday 30th July Sydney based create music agency UNDR Ctrl celebrates two years of artists, events, tours and late night emails with a full venue takeover at our home-from-home, Oxford Art Factory – presented by our friends at OXJAM, Purple Sneakers and FBi Click.
This past year has seen UNDR Ctrl establish The Island LIVE as one of Sydney's premier summer music events with guests including Boys Noize, TEED and Motez. In conjunction with UK dance bible Mixmag we launched (and manage on-going) the fortnightly live broadcast series The Lab SYD featuring DJ sets from the likes of Busy P & Boston Bun, Late Nite Tuff Guy and Cut Snake. We hosted our own UNDR Ctrl radio show for a month on FBi Click. Our music industry charity 5-a-side football tournament Musica Copa expanded to 20 teams and raised $16,500 for charity. We produced national headline tours for domestic artists Bag Raiders, Set Mo, Total Giovanni, World Champion, Just A Gent, Adi Toohey, Shantan Wantan Ichiban, Jensen Interceptor, World's End Press, Light Year and Lancelot, whilst organising tours for our international artist roster San Holo and LCAW, plus a special Boysnoize Records tour with Spank Rock. BRO CASE returned to Big Sound to showcase the best new Australian electronic talent for a second year, we partnered with Purple Sneakers to celebrate their 10th Birthday and Boys Noize tore the roof off OAF. Further afield we hosted stages at Mountain Sounds Festival, Secret Garden and The Greenwood - the latter supporting Nina Kraviz and Hot Since 82... so all in all, it's been a rather productive year.
Oxford Art Factory was the scene of last year's unforgettable sold out 1st Birthday; an all-white-stage-invading-night, showcasing the agency's gleaming talent roster and raising significant funds for Oxfam's #gigsforgood charity OXJAM. The 2nd Birthday represents fresh eyes and ears on the current crop of UNDR Ctrl artists collectively progressing the domestic electronic music scene and proudly finds its place as the Official Sydney Launch event for OXJAM 2016. Needless to say we're going all out, assembling a fierce squad of UNDR Ctrl faves and introducing a few stars of the future to help raise funds and awareness for this fantastic charity.
Melbourne messiah Roland Tings takes centre stage with a DJ Set a week after he headlines the Tiny Dancer stage at Splendour in the Grass. Expect to hear his totally primo new single, which is about to drop as part of his next acclaimed EP. Rainbow Chan is another artist about to push out some fresh heat. Her debut album 'Spacings' is released in August and latest single 'Work' precedes it this month. Having just wooed Vivid crowds for Heaps Gay, Gallery of NSW and the MCA, Rainbow is performing her new live show just for us! Continuing the 'live' theme is Third Floor; one of the newest members of the UNDR Ctrl fam. We are super excited to present Third Floor's world exclusive live debut, bringing his stunning debut audio-visual EP 'Dream State' to life on stage for the very first time. Prepare the senses, this is gonna be something extra special.
JUST ADDED - JUST A GENT. This young man is very much at the top of his game right now, following the release of 'Loaded' feat. Melissa Ramsay, the much-loved second single taken from his forthcoming EP. 'Loaded' follows the smash single 'Heavy As A Heartbreak' feat. Lanks and his charming remix for The Temper Trap. The 19 year old producer will be debuting a new look live show at Splendour in the Grass featuring some of his guest vocalists, before hitting up Oxford Art Factory with a few friends a week later for our Birthday.
The Gallery room at OAF will again flourish into our own lil' rave cave for the night, headed up by veterans of the scene Motorik Vibe Council, who are about to celebrate their own 5th Birthday, and Purple Sneakers DJs who hosted their "ten years of taste" Birthday in June. Our tastemaking-radio-presenting duo of Adi Toohey and Luen continue the DJ firepower alongside pysch hunks World Champion (in DJ mode) and a feel-good 90's "Rhythm of the Night" set from Ariane. Look out for B2B sets from FBi Radio dream team Kato and Bad Ezzy plus the girl power of Annie Bass and Ellie Sass. The creative minds of EGO and Purely Mental return to present more tripped out visuals across both rooms, and by popular demand, we're bringing back last year's dress code... yep, "It'll be ALL WHITE on the night (again). Nice.
Last year's Birthday was a total sell out, so get in quick and we'll see you and your sexy ALL WHITE outfits soon.
