Pitmasters Reunited:

An Evening with Bluebonnet BBQ & Micklethwait Craft Meats

The appeal of American barbecue, and the influx of restaurants rooted in this style in Melbourne, is easy to understand. The food is social, hearty and speaks to the long-standing Australian barbecue culture. It is something that can be enjoyed in a casual atmosphere, amongst mates and over a cold bottle of beer or whisky on ice. Add in a bit of bluegrass music, and the resulting success is a no-brainer in a city that thrives on music, food and hospitality.

Bluebonnet Barbecue is unique amongst this somewhat seemingly "viral" food trend, and most patrons in the city are familiar with Chris Terlikar's story. 'An ambitious Aussie chef works in an NYC Michelin star restaurant, a chance meeting leads to an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to Texas to study the art of low and slow wood-smoked meat'. But how much do we really know about the man behind the legend, Tom Micklethwait, Terlikar's own barbecue mentor. Come early February, the food lovers of Melbourne will have the chance to find out.

Terlikar, the Chef and Proprietor behind Bluebonnet Barbecue, will be holding a special coursed dinner on February 2nd with guest Tom Micklethwait, flown in all the way from Austin, Texas. The event will be held at the newly renovated Bluebonnet dining room, located within the John Curtin Hotel at 29 Lygon Street.

In attendance will be both Terlikar and Micklethwait, alongside Presenting Sponsor Nant Distillery and sponsors Pepperjack Wine and Yak Ales. This will be a ticketed event and each course will be paired with a beverage from each sponsor. Will Sleeman, of the Black Pearl & Australia Bar Awards 2015 Rookie of the Year, will be serving up from behind the bar 'The Bonnet Special' featuring Nant's Sherry Cask Whisky. It will be a night filled with great food, even better stories and an opportunity for barbecue enthusiasts to have an up close and personal meeting with two seasoned pitmasters.
