MY DISCO have announced a national Australian tour throughout January and February in 2017, beginning with the prestigious Sugar Mountain Festival in Melbourne's VCA grounds on January 21. Featuring re-worked material from their latest remix LP, Severe Remixes, the two track LP follows up from the band's 2015 full length and fourth studio album, Severe. (Temporary Residence Ltd Worldwide)
The new release features renowned dark ambient creator Brian Williams aka Lustmord re-work a bleak and elongated version of the track "1991" whilst tech- no legend Karl O'Connor aka Regis bludgeons listens with a pounding industrial conceptualisation of their song "Our Decade."
Since releasing their fourth studio album, Severe in 2015, the band have toured most of Europe, the UK, all of South East Asia, Japan, Taiwan, New Zealand and of course Australia. This summer tour will be the start of another busy live schedule for the band, taking them back to Asia and an extensive run in North America.
Severe was recorded, mixed, and produced in Melbourne by acclaimed film composer and producer, Cornel Wilczek. Engineered entirely in a digital domain, the recording process for Severe was a huge change for MY DISCO, who had previously worked with renowned analogue tape guru, Steve Albini. The change in process allowed the band the freedom to explore enhanced audio effects, including programmed sine wave drones and heavily effected rhythms and vocals.
Severe is an album of aggravated tonal darkness and long breaths of disturbing silence, punctuated by pounding stabs and heavy, hypnotic rhythms. It is a minimalist approach to maximum sound, and by far the band's darkest, heaviest, and most consistent album of MY DISCO's burgeoning career.
"This trio are one of the most intense groups you will ever see live - imagine Shellac playing techno - and their three albums to date have been exercises in punishing yet uplifting minimalism. We're pleased to say that five years after brilliant 2010 LP Little Joy MY DISCO are back with aptly-titled new LP Severe." - The Quietus
