Every generation has their own version of the blues; music that captures a sense of melancholia and provides a sonic reflecting pool for young lovers, old souls, and the eternally heartbroken.
Our generations' new breed of post-party heartache comes courtesy of London based trio HAELOS, who are late additions to both the Byron and Lorne Falls Festival lineups. Today, we are ecstatic to announce that the band will be playing their first ever headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne in January 2017, with help from an absolute stellar line-up of support acts; Yeo, Christopher Port, and BUOY (Sydney only).
HAELOS are Arthur Delaney (vocals), Dom Goldsmith (vocals, production) and Lotti Benardout (vocals); the trio brings a multitude of ominous and enchanting sounds that blend seamlessly together. After a massive year touring their debut album Full Circle all over the US and Europe, they played some of the world's biggest festival stages (Leeds, Reading, Coachella and Lollapalooza), and went on to perform a staggering 11 shows at SXSW, including an amazing performance at our Secret Sounds showcase party!
Best described as Portishead by the way of London Grammar, HAELOS first single 'Dust' was released in 2014 on Soundcloud and within hours skyrocketed the band into internet stardom. After captivating the world with their ode to trip-hop and the glory days of British electronica, the group followed in 2015 with the singles 'Pray' and 'Earth Not Above'. After signing to Matador Records in 2015, they released the Earth Not Above EP, with Consequence of Sounds describing it as "a dance floor scene that sounded as if Ace of Base and Joy Division had held secret meetings in David Byrne's basement". The four-track EP was followed by the release of their debut album Full Circle in early 2016, already reaching #1 on the UK iTunes electronic charts, #5 on the US Billboard electronic charts and #20 on the Heatseekers chart.
For their darkly shaded and radiant debut album Full Circle, HAELOS have found their blues where others go to find pure, uncut joy: the dance-floor. The London trio's version of a night out is a million miles away from mirror balls and sweaty bodies, their rippling electronic pop conjuring the exhilarating privacy of a cavernous club's dark pockets and the introspective comedowns that accompany rainy 5 a.m. cab rides. "It's the music you put on after the club," Lotti Benardout, who shares vocal duties with her other bandmates, states. "You can still feel that energy and euphoria, but it might bring you back to reflect on certain moments or memories."
With support from some of Australia's most exciting electro-innovators, HAELOS debut Australian shows are certainly an early contender for the party of 2017.
Yeo, Melbourne based producer, combines his skills as keyboardist, bass player, vocalist and drum programmer to create guaranteed dance floor bangers. From festivals, supporting Sam Smith, collaborating with Hermitude, and dropping Triple J favourites 'Icarus' and 'Quiet Achiever', 2015 created a long list of stellar achievements. This year's release of nine-track album Ganbaru is a true testament to his forever-changing style and sound.
Christopher Port is Melbourne based solo producer and long time touring member of the Pieater family - playing drums for Airling and #1 Dads, and live samples with Big Scary. Quietly fine-tuning his own music in between tours, Port finally introduced us to his solo work this year. His debut EP Vetement is an exciting and unique take on the UK garage scene.
Sydney based artist BUOY will be gracing the stage in her hometown, after spending the last year steadily building her reputation as one of Australia's most unique and interesting electronic acts. Set to a backdrop of intricately textured synths & sampling, BUOY's music uses vastness and space to highlight her striking vocals. The release of 'Clouds & Rain' & her Break EP earned her national radio support, rave reviews internationally, and a spot at this year's Splendour in the Grass.
Join us on the dance-floor! We are so excited to bring HAELOS' to Sydney and Melbourne this January.
