DARKBEAT presents:
BALANCE
Featuring
NICK WARREN (UK)
&
jozif (UK)
FRIDAY 4th APRIL 2014 @ NEW GUERNICA
After tearing up the Melbourne bay how can we let Nick Warren leave town without one final performance? We all know the man is a legend so we just had to get him back for round 2. Yes, Nick will be playing a 2nd show at New Guernica for all of those that missed out on the boat, or even for those that were on the boat and would like a second musical serving of Nick Warren. As if that's not reason enough to attend we are very excited to announce that English deep house cat jozif will be joining us for the 2nd show!
One of the most exciting names to proliferate in the world of house music over the last five years or so, English DJ and producerjozif is a unique talent. His highly musical take on house and downtempo 4/4 grooves as a producer is somewhat belied by his prowess as a dancefloor-driven DJ, but it's exactly this combination that makes him such an exciting proposition. His Balance mix from last year showed a melancholy side to jozif that very few expected, and proved that there is more to jozif than meets the eye. Whether he's playing the big rooms of a We Love... Space residency, serving up wigged-out grooves alongside his Fist or Finger label partner Craig Richards or soundtracking a sun-drenched day party in Shoreditch, he always seems effortlessly comfortable - and accomplished.
Amazing or what?! Jozif into Nick Warren makes a lot of sense - throw in the party vibe being carried over from the boat and we are set for a seriously fun night! It's rare to see 2 artists of Nick Warren and jozif's caliber in the intimate surrounds of a venue like New Guernica. This looks set to be a very special night indeed.

NICK WARREN (UK)
Nick Warren really is one of Australia's most beloved DJ's. One of the true pioneers of the progressive sound, Nick has been around since the advent of dance music alongside other UK compatriots like Paul Oakonfold, Sasha and Tall Paul. By the early '90s, he was one of the UK's top DJs, spinning everything from dub and hip-hop to house. When fellow Bristol artists Massive Attack left to tour America in the wake of their early success, they invited Warren to accompany them on tour as their official DJ, a testament to his turntable skills as well as his reputation at the time.
Around this same time, the mid- to late '90s, Warren was also garnering quite a bit of attention for his Way Out West collaboration with Jody Wisternoff, resulting in several popular singles for Deconstruction, most notably "The Gift," as well as a self-titled full-length featuring the group's hits. Nick played an integral part in defining the then-evolving trance sound of the late '90s when he joined the relatively unknown Global Underground brand; a relationship that proved to be career defining as he ended up mixing 8 of the legendary label's compilations. A regular for the Renaissance brand as well, Nick really has done it all. Last year's mix compilation for the hallowed Balance series has shown that Nick is still as relevant as what he was 20 years ago.
To start off the new year of 2013, Nick is looks to the future, and has just announced that he will be mixing the next Renaissance Cd, and has says. "I am really excited to announce that I'll be compiling the next album, set for a January 2013 release, which will be my 13th compilation. In 2001 Danny Howells and I released The Masters Series Part Four: Revelation and it's fantastic to be asked on their 20th Anniversary to mix the next installment. These are exciting times for electronic music with genres and styles more eclectic than ever before and with this album for the Masters series I hope to highlight some of the most breathtaking and diverse electronic music in 2012. Following a similar template to my Soundgarden Radio shows, the mix over two cd's will explore the ambient and leftfield side of electronic music as well as more dancefloor-oriented sounds, taking in producers from every corner of the planet and showcasing many unknown talents. The music I have found so far for the compilation is exceptional and I can't wait to get into the studio to mix it."

jozif (UK)
After breaking through with - what are still - standout releases on labels like Wolf + Lamb back in 2010, the last few years have seen Londoner jozif cement himself as a unique musical voice in the world of electronic music. Far from just programming beats that make you jack, his music is some of the most beautiful you will hear, with lush string arrangements, emotive pianos and golden synths coming together into soundscapes that will melt your heart as well as warm your soul.
Building on the early success of releases like the Sunrise EP on Infine, the first releases on Fist or Finger (the label he co-runs with fabric's Craig Richards) and the summer anthem that was 'Twilight' with vocalist Terri Walker on More Music, jozif was unsurprisingly snapped up by LA's suitably sultry Culprit for a brace of EPs that saw him further hone his richly musical style. Since then he has been enlisted by the cultured likes of mobilee, Suol and Compost for remixes, and the way he carefully permeates his music with such serene and slo-mo ambiance yet imbues each track with a cheeky dancefloor bump has seen everyone from Sasha to Giles Peterson, Andrew Weatherall to Damian Lazarus fall in love.
Having been a DJ since as far back as 1996, it made sense that the legendary Balance series came calling for jozif when they wanted to kick-off a new mix series in early 2013. What he turned in was a stunningly emotional and heartfelt mix that proved just how sensitive and soothing electronic music can be, at the same time, of course, as subtly making you move your body. For proof of his artistic ability in the booth, you only need ask anyone who has seen him play at places like Space Ibiza, London's foremost fabric and many other festivals around Asia and both Americas.
Currently co-writing with two venerated artists from the scene that cannot yet be named, there is much more on the horizon for jozif. Crosstown Rebels (for a second time, following the keenly sampled found sound delights of The 508 in 2012), Matt Tolfrey's Leftroom and Silicone Soul's Darkroom Dubs are all to release more of his music in the coming months, and he will continue to tour the world as a DJ, making people dance to, smile at, and most importantly, feel his most human and organic house music.
