Californian duo Best Coast, already set to play Splendour In The Grass, have just announced two sideshows for limited audiences while in Australia. This will be the outfit’s long awaited return to our shores, after conquering stages across Europe and the US.

Bethany Consentino and Bobb Bruno will be bringing their 60s inflected pop rock to Melbourne's Corner Hotel on Sunday 26th July and Oxford Art Factory in Sydney on Tuesday 28th July.

Sugar sweet vocals juxtaposed with guitar distortion and a laid back, lo-fi sound, only begins to describe the upbeat sound of Best Coast. Their first album, Crazy for You (2010), became a mainstream success after considerable online buzz. Pitchfork stated "... I'll place my bet that Crazy For You will sound pretty great all damn year, and beyond," whilst The Guardian declared it "A charming introduction." PopMatters said of Consentino, "As a songwriter, Cosentino has a command of the necessary elements that go into pop songs that could stand the test of time, while having a good sense of what's current musically and culturally." Famed actress Drew Barrymore directed the clip for the band's song Our Deal from Crazy for You, featuring other notable Hollywood names (Chloe Grace Moretz, Tyler Posey, Childish Gambino, Miranda Cosgrove).

Best Coast's latest offering, California Nights (Harvest / EMI), is set for release on 1st May, and stands as the band's most cultivated effort to date. It is a brighter, more sparkly, more sophisticated, more psychedelic Best Coast album across the board, embodying the rich lightness and stinging darkness of a California state of mind. Check out the lyric video for Feeling OK here.

Rolling Stone said of the new album: "California Nights is as lightly psychedelic as the band's new sound." The album has also received considerable nods from Consequence of Sound, MTV, EW and Spin.

"The new song, [Heaven Sent], blends vibrant guitar riffs and Bethany Cosentino's smoky, ghostly vocals, is great." - SPIN.com

"[Heaven Sent's] upbeat, electric guitar-laced tune sounds like the lovechild of Wilde's "Kids In America" and Jett's "Bad Reputation," with a touch of The Go-Gos' "Vacation." - EW.com

"Highlighted by red-hot, shoegaze-inspired guitars and Bethany Cosentino's spectral vocals, it's Best Coast's first new song in over a year and easily well-worth the wait." - Consequence of Sound

"We'll be playing [Heaven Sent] on loop until the full album comes out..." - MTV.com

With sounds reminiscent of a wide range of musical mammoths - Weezer, Blink-182, Gwen Stefani, Patsy Kline, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, Drake, and more - Best Coast will be bringing their sun-drenched Californian sound to the Australian winter.
