Psychedelic rock band Unknown Mortal Orchestra return to Hobart after 10 years, in celebration of their latest studio album, V.
Created between the dry freeways of Palm Springs, California and the lush coastlines of Hilo, Hawaii, V is the definitive UMO record. Led by Hawaiian-NZ artist Ruban Nielson, V draws from the rich traditions of West Coast AOR, classic hits, weirdo pop and Hapa-haole music. With his sharpest ever ear for “making it UMO”, Ruban evokes blue skies, beachside cocktail bars and hotel pools without ever turning a blind eye to the darkness that lurks below perfect, pristine surfaces.
V is about having fun while making music and art that transcends clout and currency. In the process, Ruban effortlessly reclaims tests as a personal part of selfhood; in that reclamation, he propels UMO to breathtaking new creative heights.
