Bored of the same house and techno that has dominated the dance music scene since the birth of rave, Nein Records was founded with a desire to be different — 200+ releases later and its influence is prolific.

Much of its output can be broadly labelled as, well, techno, insofar that it represents the logical progression of the genre that was innovated in 1980s Detroit before spreading to the worldwide underground — but a simple descriptor like that only goes so far. Rather, Nein artists take established sounds — techno, EBM, and new beat — and filter them through a global array of influences, such as darkwave, Italo disco, and psychedelic pop. The end result is diverse and dark, a reflection of Tronik Youth’s artistic aesthetic.
