Event Details

The year is 2032.

Meanjin (Brisbane) has been successful in its bid to host the Olympic Games. But in the 11 years since the bid was announced in 2021, the World looks very different...

The outbreak of COVID-19 and the failed Tokyo Olympics in 2021 precipitated rapid and radical re-imagining of what the Olympics could be - new sports and competitors enter the fray and even the World starts to look different...

Shortly after 2021, the World experienced more turbulence: yet another global shift - referred to now only as 'The Big Hole' - where the international status quo experienced an upheaval resulting in the dissolution of existing borders and nations, with new entities and states taking their place.

Despite this, certain traditions remain - and it is in this setting, that we find ourselves - Meanjin's queer community - gathering together to celebrate the 2032 Shandy Olympics.

Much like the Olympics of years past, we can promise that things will get lit, people will get sweaty, you'll see unforgettable feats of athleticism, and somehow Nikki Webster is still floating in the air?

We are honoured to invite you to...
