TARAB ENSEMBLE - MELODIES FOR PALESTINE

MUSIC IS STILL POSSIBLE IN GAZA

CLASSICAL ARABIC MUSIC WITH A TWIST

Australia's top music group on Classical Arabic

90+ minutes performance of a variety of Arabic music styles:

Classical, Muwashah, Quduud, Sufi, Longa, Franco-Arab, & more..

Tarab: The name. The journey.

Tarab is an Arabic word that, while difficult to translate, encapsulates the pleasure and joy one gets from great, often classical Arab music. In 2019, Yousef Alreemawi; a Palestinian-Australian musician and intellectual, founded the ensemble after he realized instrumental classical Arabic music is under-represented in Victoria, and named it after the beautiful concept of Tarab.

While Tarab ensemble started at the hands of multi-faith Arabic speaking musicians (from Palestine, Lebanon, Syria and Egypt),  the vision of the ensemble has expanded to encompass non-Arab musicians (from Australia, Iran, and Armenia). This is a testimony of the beauty, richness and diversity of the tarab and its ability to attract people from different cultures around it.

Today, and thanks to the talent and tireless efforts of its members, Tarab Ensemble has evolved to be Australia's leading and largest music group that is totally dedicated to instrumental classical Arabic music, but don't forget, with a twist.

The musicians:

Greg Khaderian (saxophone), Sarah McDonald (flute), Vahideh Eisaei (qanoun), Michael Currie (double bass), Husam Karam (oud), Khajak Khachigian (guitar), Nasser Ammar (riq)

Mentor: Dr Ali Abdullah
