Shining Bird are a collective who first came into existence in 2012 as a studio project to release their debut EP Shade of the Sea. The following year they filled out to a live band and signed to Spunk Records to release their debut album ‘Leisure Coast’. Recorded in their home of Austinmer on the NSW south coast, the released received widespread acclaim for its unique brand of Australian pop. It earned Album of the Week on ABC Radio National and received strong reviews from publications such as Rolling Stone and The Sydney Morning Herald.

To follow it up the band entered the studio with Tim Whitten (The Go-Betweens, Hoodoo Gurus) behind the mixing console while Shining Bird keyboardist Russell Webster who had engineered and produced the debut album remained on production duties.  Once again the album was widely acclaimed upon its release in 2016, winning FBi Radio SMAC Awards for both Album of the Year and Song of the Year (x 2 for "Rivermouth" & "Helluva Lot"). Following the release of the album the band completed a national album tour which took them to remote central Australia playing locations through outback South Australia and Northern Territory alongside the usual east coast city stops.

During 2018 the band started work on album number three and in early 2019 were handpicked to play a special local show with Midnight Oil at which point the band released “Who Are We”, the epic first single from the upcoming album. Between the odd live appearance during the rest of 2019 the band continued to work on the next album, recording it across various locations across NSW again working alongside Tim Whitten.

Following the release of the albums epic title track ‘Deadlands’ last month, Shining Bird now return with the single 'Strangeland' the next release from their forthcoming album via Spunk Records.
