Their first experimental electronic music collaboration, the trio of improvisers draw from their broad scope of music genres; contemporary classical, film, contemporary performance and dance, working with their voices, cellos and electronic music tools.

Dharawal/Inuk composer and vocalist Sonya Holowell joins electro-acoustic music duo Nurosynk (Andrew Batt-Rawden and Miles Horler) in this audio/visual performance. Following videographic pathways captured recently before the performance, their sounds converse with visual scenes of built and natural environments on Wodi Wodi and Gadigal Country (Wollongong and Sydney).

Biographies

Nurosynk is an acoustic / electronic duo, consisting of two cellos, voices and additional instruments. Our imaginations are inspired by cinematic, ambient, high energy and deep meditation experiences in unpredictable ways, and we enjoy sharing this inspiration with audiences. We're influenced by classical music, queer culture, lo-fi, electronic music including wall-of-sound noise and glitch. The duo is formed by composers Andrew Batt-Rawden and Miles Horler. They formed the duo in 2022 and have performed at Moshpit Bar, the Red Rattler and self-released 3 albums with a 4th (a surround sound improvisation) due for release in Dec 2022 recorded in October at City of Sydney Creative Studios, managed by BrandX. 

Sonya Holowell is a vocalist, composer, writer and educator of Dharawal/Inuit descent. Her work spans many contexts and takes multiple forms, with improvisation as a primary modality. Sonya is co-founder and previous editor of online arts publication ADSR Zine. Recent projects include the duos Sumn Conduit with Ben Carey, holowell with Jonathan Holowell and Danger/Dancer with James Hazel. She is on a new threshold of personal, expository work.

Sonya’s work as a vocalist and composer has been shown on numerous platforms including Sydney Festival, Adelaide Festival, Resonant Bodies Festival, Sydney Biennale, Vivid Festival, soundSCAPE Italy, Soft Centre, Liveworks Festival, the Now Now Festival, Sydney Fringe Festival, Moorambilla Festival, The Banff Centre (Canada), Canberra International Music Festival, Chamber Made Hi-Viz Practice Exchange, SoundOut Festival, and others. She has collaborated with leading new music ensembles such as the Song Company, JACK Quartet, Ensemble Offspring, International Contemporary Ensemble, Decibel, Tura New Music and the Australian Art Orchestra, and has presented her award-winning work at venues that include the Sydney Opera House, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Museum of Contemporary Art, Carriageworks, Institute of Modern Art, The Powerhouse Museum, MUMA and the National Gallery of Australia.
