Live N Local + Beat Magazine + The Espy presents
Official Closing Party: Huntly + Bad Bangs + Purr Usual
Beat Magazine & The Espy present: Live N Local After Party! Feat. Huntly, Bad Bangs + Purr Usual // FREE ENTRY
Across eight action-packed days in August, Melbourne’s premier winter music festival, Live N Local, is decorating the southside with its ambitious live music program.
As the week of cultural exploration comes to a close, the music enthusiasts at Beat Magazine have been armed with the responsibility of throwing a huge party to round out proceedings.
And haven’t we prepared something special. Headlining the event will be dance trio Huntly. The Melbourne natives have been drumming up some hype with their debut LP Low Grade Buzz, a release chock full of lo-fi electronica and, as they put it, "doof you can cry to”. They will have just played Ypsigrock Festival in Sicily a few weeks prior and will be primed and ready to light up the stage.
The two support acts have been making their own kinds of noise. Bad Bangs is Shelby De Fazio, Ben Leahy and Tim Ryles – a dynamic trio who create danceable garage rock that is sure to fill hearts and minds. Their latest single ‘Crush’ parades the magical voice of frontwoman De Fazio and is an archetype of the band’s signature grunt. This is a three-piece on the rise.
Kicking off the day party will be psych-jazz investigators Purr Usual, a quartet of musically gifted best mates who know how to rapidly escalate things at the push of pedal. Melbourne is rife with conversation that maybe we’re onto the next Mildlife here and if their recent Evelyn Hotel residency is anything to go by, then all of that is true and more.
