Great Southern Nights & Premier Artists Present...
Joan & The Giants
The band began with longtime partners Nyul Nyul man Aaron Birch and powerhouse queer vocalist Grace-Newton Wordsworth, who formed Joan & The Giants in 2019. Coming together from different backgrounds, Aaron from a remote Indigenous community in the Kimberley and Grace from a farm down South of WA, the pair are now based in Perth with band members Riley Sutton and Liam Olsen.
No strangers to the spotlight, Joan & The Giants have embarked on multiple sold out WA tours and most recently a debut headline East Coast tour. The band have headlined festivals to thousands of people, had rave reviews, a premiere and airplay on Triple J and rotation on Unearthed. Fresh off their three wins at the 2023 WA Song of The Year Awards, Joan & The Giants won 'Outstanding Indigenous' with 'The Weekend' and 'Best Rock Song' and the Runner Up place for Song of The Year with single 'Cool Kid'. They also just recently came away with 3 awards at the WA Music Awards November 2023 for best Alternative/Indie act, Best single and Best Music Video for ‘Cool Kid’.
In 2022 JATG’s debut EP spent over 3 months on the top 10 metro community radio charts. They also received multiple nominations in last year’s prestigious International Songwriting Competition alongside artists such as Missy Higgins and Eskimo Joe. The band has also just finished up a WA tour with legends Eskimo Joe, and shared stages with Winterbourne, Caravana Sun, Didirri, Odette, Weyes Blood & more.
Great Southern Nights 2024 will take place from 8-24 March 2024 featuring more than 300 gigs across 17 nights throughout Sydney’s inner city and Western Sydney, as well as shows in seven key music communities across NSW, including Tamworth, Wagga, Newcastle, Wollongong and the Northern Rivers.
We acknowledge that this event is held on the stolen lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. We pay our respects to Elders, past, present and emerging. Sovereignty was never ceded.
