Launching her first new album in 8 years, Queensland-based artist Jackie Marshall has been described as "That rare thing: an Australian original" by The Weekend Australian; her dynamic live voice and both challenge the mind while soothing the soul.
Marshall's "Lilith Shrugs" LP (co-produced by The Re-Mains' Leigh Ivin) is set for release on September 10th. Recorded in Ivin's private studio set in the majestic granite-rich Upper Moore Creek Valley in NSW, the album features 11 diverse tracks that follow the artist through a tumultuous time in her life involving the birth of her son, hospitalisation for mental health reasons, dramatic family law incursions, and multitudinous health problems including a recent stint with breast cancer. "It's a personal record, looking back I realise I was never going to be capable of exploring anything else other than the detail of my own stories contrasted against their common archetypes during this period of my life. I certainly tried to keep it musically interesting and keep the lyric broad, universal and true to archetype...Leigh and I took each song on it's own merits and produced accordingly" Marshall credits co-producer, guitarist and friend Ivin with seeing the recording through. "As Leigh says, the records sounds exactly like what you'd think a record between the two of us might sound. He has a fantastic guitar style - he knows all the hooks and tricks and he's not shy with them. I reckon he has a distinct bolshie-yet-playful guitar personality, you certainly know it's Leigh playing on the album."
AT TIMES dense and rollicking, at others pensive and exposed, the record rolls along assuredly, brimming with feminine resilience, which Marshall hopes her audiences will draw both strength and joy from "Many people experience difficult stories similar to my own...I'm very fortunate to have prevailed."
Marshall has planned a series of initial tour dates to support the release of the record as she dips her very willing and able toes back into touring waters after a long hiatus.
