Family Jams is back, and bigger and better than ever!

Bringing the best of Melbourne’s incredible, original, live music scene to kids and those who take them to gigs since 2022, Family Jams takes on its biggest venue yet, the gloriously refurbished Northcote Theatre.

Family Jams’ EVENTS are designed for all generations to come together to enjoy incredible live, original, Australian music, and this line-up is our biggest yet. 

FAMILY JAMS FEST at the Northcote Theatre will feature Australia’s hardest-hitting Hammond Organ trio Cookin’ on 3 Burners, joined onstage will by soul superstar Stella Angelico, fast-rising Balinese-Australian neo-soul singer/producer Komang, Melbourne’s very own punk band for kids Riot Baby, and GuriNgai-woman brass and looping, alt-pop, dance-stravaganza Charlie Needs Braces.

Cookin’ On 3 Burners are Australia’s hardest hitting Hammond Organ trio with Ivan “Choi” Khatchoyan keeping those drum breaks tighter than a mosquito’s tweeter, Jake Mason making the Hammond swell and scream and Dan West twanging his guitar like a boss. Joining them onstage will be special guest vocalist Stella Angelico, whose smoky vocals and dynamic performances have been setting stages ablaze around the country.

Since its inception in 1997 Cookin’ On 3 Burners has continuously evolved and branched out, bringing their strong trio sound to collaborations with a variety of artists. The 2016 meeting with French electronic wunderkind Kungs resulted in the Kungs vs Cookin’ On 3 Burners version of their classic soul track “This Girl” which saw substantial chart success world-wide, reaching #1 in Europe, #2 in the UK and was the world’s most Shazamed dance track of 2016.

Komang is a Balinese-Australian singer and producer based on Wurundjeri Country, whose blending of groove-based production with Indonesian influences helps her create vibrant electronic RnB described as 'neo-soul with Balinese spirit'. Her music evokes mysticism and dreamscapes and tell stories of kinship and culture, and in the last year has put her on exciting lineups such as Boiler Room Festival (Bali), NGV Friday Nights (Naarm/Melbourne) and We Out Here (UK).

Riot Baby is a punk band for kids. They make fast and loud music for little people, and the big people that take them to gigs. A mum, two dads, a teen, a tween, and an occasional stage-crashing preppie.

Formed in late-2019 when they began making punk versions of Australian kids books, Riot Baby then began writing and performing songs about the issues facing kids and parents navigating late-stage capitalism, pandemics, disasters, bullies, and big feelings.

Featuring some of the Melbourne music scene’s youngest veterans, Riot Baby has played the Brunswick Music Festival, Resonate Festival, Family Jams, the Brunswick Ballroom, The Old Bar, and many other venues and festivals around Melbourne.

Charlie Needs Braces is the latest project from Naarm musician Charlie Woods. Charlie is a proud GuriNgai woman, a direct descendant of Bungaree and Matora. The lands running from the central coast of NSW along the mouth of the Hawkesbury river and into Northern Sydney.

Charlie Woods performs regularly alongside her sister Miri and performs regularly with The Teskey Brothers, The Seven Ups, and TEK TEK Ensemble. 

Charlie now embarks on her own journey of brass and looping, so get ready to immerse yourself in all things Charlie Needs Braces with her most recent debut album Saltwater People; a collection of songs that will make you dance with stories inspired by Country and Culture.

Volume
Sound levels are monitored and are safe for ears of all sizes, but adults are encouraged to bring hearing protection for the kids in their care if they think they might feel more comfortable. There will be a limited amount of hearing protection for sale at the gig. They’re a great investment in kids’ gig-going future!

Safety and security
Please be aware that Family Jams events are standing/dancing with limited seating. Venue security will be present, and performers will monitor the crowd, but parents/guardians are expected to be responsible for their children at all times. Please be mindful of small children rocking out in the mosh pit.

Accessibility
Lighting - club lighting rigs are used (no strobes).

Wheelchair access and toilets – The venue is wheelchair accessible and has a DDA toilet located in the auditorium approx. 7m from designated barrier viewing. Please book on Moshtix then contact us before the show should you wish to reserve a space in this area.

Please note that Northcote Theatre has some stairs to access the cocktail lounge, but all other areas are accessible.

Accessible entrance – The venue's accessibility entrance is via Bastings Street. The entrance on High Street has 2 steps upon entry.

Companion cards – The venue accepts companion cards. Please contact tanya@northcotetheatre.com.au prior to show day to arrange a companion ticket. You do not need to purchase a companion ticket on Moshtix.

Special Request Seating – The venue is standing room only, however if you are unable to stand for extended periods of time, please book via Moshtix then get in touch with tanya@northcotetheatre.com.au.

Drop off / Pick up – There are areas available for drop off and pick up on Bastings Street and on High Street.

Prams and Changing
 Pram parking is available, but limited. If you can manage it we suggest not bringing a pram. Prams are not allowed on the dance-floor for safety reasons. Baby change facilities are available.

Ticket resale
We encourage people to use Tixel to resell any tickets they no longer need. Be aware of ticket scammers offering tickets on Facebook!

 All Northcote Theatre show timings allow for arrival and departure via public transport located on High street

Public Transport:
 Tram 86 Toward RMIT/Plenty Road from the City; Stop 31-Northcote Town Hall/High Street
 
 Westgarth Railway Station, 990m (Hurstbridge line)
 Merri Railway Station, 650m (Mernda line)
 Northcote Station, 700m (Mernda line)

Bicycle:
There are 140 bicycle parks available in our bike valet via Wimble street

 Car parking:
 Northcote Theatre located in a residential area with mostly permit parking on the surrounding streets.

 There is ample free parking at Northcote Plaza which is a 12 minute walk away.
