Staff from the music programs at Melbourne Polytechnic present a concert of new and re-imagined works performed by three diverse ensembles.

Melbourne Polytechnic staff featured include Eugene Ball, Jonathan Dimond, Adam King, Michael Meagher, Adrian Sherriff, Anthony Schulz, Adam Starr and Nick Tsiavos.

Tripataka performs unique arrangements of jazz repertoire by Thelonious Monk, Steve Coleman, and George Gershwin, which are re-imagined in a landscape where odd metres, rhythmic stratafication and bitonality collide to create a rich and stimulating tapestry.

Folia is the culmination of a 15 year collaboration between contrabassist, Nick Tsiavos and accordionist, Anthony Schulz and is an exploration of a cross-genre minimalism that frequently condenses into a dark romanticism.

The Eugene Ball 4tet presents simple and inventive arrangements of songs from the 1920s to the current day. Led by the versatile Eugene Ball (trumpet), the band features the doyen of groove, Michael Meagher (electric bass), James Macaulay (trombone) and James McLean (drums). Joining them for this performance is the truly remarkable Aaron Choulai; multi award winning pianist, composer and producer.
