It's time to start planning your most radical looks for Meanjin's wildest queer dance party!

Pack your bags and start planning your outfits, because it’s time to travel into the radical and surreal world of…

BOWERYTOPIA

Friday 2nd Sept | 8:30pm - 2am | The Tivoli

The Stitchery Collective and Shandy are joining forces once again to present this night of radical fashion, queer bliss, and dancefloor devotion as we pay homage to Leigh Bowery, the queer Australian creative who radically re-imagined the world of fashion, art, and partying.

This is your chance to take inspiration from Bowery and express yourself with fashion, using your body as the canvas. The world is your oyster: emulate an iconic look from Bowery, tactically dress for the dancefloor, or present a never-before-seen couture creation!

Get ready to boogie and be dazzled at the wildest party in Meanjin - with a line-up of outrageous queer performers and a sizzling soundtrack courtesy of the hottest DJs.

Join the city’s most fashionable and fabulous, as we discover whose costume will help them snatch the crown and be anointed the Queen of Bowerytopia!

Tickets

First release tickets start at $40 (inclusive of booking fee) with second and final release tickets available for $45 & $50.

But don't wait too long to grab your ticket - people are already booking their flights to join us for this fashionable fantasia.

We will have free and discounted tickets available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and any people who can't afford the ticket price. For more information and to gain access to this scheme, please message Shandy or The Stitchery Collective via Facebook or Instagram.

Notes for the evening

We respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we hold this event, the Turrbal, Jagera/Yuggera peoples and pay respects to Elders, past and present - and also pay respects and offer our love to the First Nations community attending our event.

We recognise that Sovereignty was never ceded and that we live and gather on stolen land.

We want people to feel as safe and welcome as possible, so please feel free to message the Shandy Instagram or Facebook page with any queries or concerns.

As always, please don't assume any one's gender or pronouns. If you get chatting with someone, it's as easy as a quick "what are your pronouns?" and you can carry on.

Consent is key – ask before touching and await a clear response; fuck yes or no thank you!

Be respectful and considerate – do your bit to make the space safer and more comfortable for others: a party is only as good as the people attending, and we all have a role to play in having the best night ever!

Racist, sexist, ableist, homophobic, or transphobic behaviour/attitudes will not be tolerated. Please see Shandy or Stitchery team members, barstaff or security if someone is making you uncomfortable.

Last but not least, look out for your friends and other party-goers & stay hydrated!

Access

The venue is wheelchair accessible.

Strobe lights will be not used during the event, however lights may occasionally move at a fast speed.

If you have any further questions around access and whether the event will be suitable for you and your needs, please don't hesitate to message our page for more info.
