Bernard Fanning has accumulated one of the most celebrated and distinct songbooks on the Australian rock spectrum, and he makes a welcome return to Twilight at Taronga in 2020.

A multi-award winning and platinum-selling artist, his solo career now spanning 10-plus years, Fanning has firmly cemented his position as one of Australia’s finest songwriters and lyricists. From the country folk-tinged charm of his multi-platinum debut solo album ‘Tea and Sympathy’ to the rock grooves and horn breaks of its follow up ‘Departures’ and the exquisitely crafted ‘Civil Dusk / Brutal Dawn’ - a 2 part album series released across 2016 and 2017.

‘Civil Dusk/Brutal Dawn’ was recorded at the stunning La Cueva Studios, the new custom built studio Fanning created in NSW’s Byron Bay with long-time producer and friend Nick DiDia (Powderfinger, Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine). Recording with DiDia finished up over Easter 2016 and March 2017, and the result is some of Fanning’s finest work: themes of decisions and consequence are characterised by a sense of warmth, space and the earthy feel of acoustic guitar, piano, strings and violin.

Fanning has also written for film, most notably the hugely successful “These Days” was commissioned for the film Two Hands (Directed by Gregor Jordan and featuring Heath Ledger) and “Shelter For My Soul” which was commissioned for the Australian Film Ned Kelly (also Directed by Gregor Jordan).

Opening for Fanning’s sold out show are Olympia and Tia Gostelow.

A relentlessly original artist, Olympia’s work resonates with complex pop unspooling, vast lyrical scope and the confident animation of a world lit with familiar dreams and desires.

Olympia recently released her sophomore album ‘Flamingo’ to critical acclaim, and a hectic international touring schedule.

‘Flamingo’ has received airplay on Radio X (UK), BBC1 (UK), Flux FM (GR) and Double J (AUS) and injects the sophisticated Olympia universe that we came to know on her debut album ‘Self Talk’ with an unhinged and urgent fizz.

Described by the Herald Sun as ‘local guitar bully and counter-culture connoisseur’, recent tours with Anna Calvi, Julia Jacklin and Fred Armisen have seen comparisons including Joey Santiago (Pixies) and David Bowie.

Mackay singer-songwriter Tia Gostelow released her debut album ‘Thick Skin’ which won ‘Album of the Year’ at the QLD Music Awards, scored triple J feature album, saw her sell out a national headline tour in Australia and perform at Falls Festival, South by South West and The Great Escape.

Tia’s hit single ‘Strangers’ has clocked over 6 million streams on Spotify and she is currently working on a new album due for release in 2020.
