Channeling local WA musical talent, to support up skilling women in rural Indonesia

Today, the Love Foundation UWA, a University of Western Australia student run club with a focus on fighting poverty through the promotion of arts, has announced the Artist Against Poverty concert set to take place in a favorite local venue, The Sewing Room on the 6th of August.

There will be a line-up of six acts set to begin at approximately 8:00pm and end at approximately 12:00pm.

The concert is a collaboration between the LOVE Foundation UWA and Perth local artists to bring the student community an inspiring line up of WA talent to electrify the music scene after the easing of restrictions. All ticket proceeds will go towards micro financing loans to mothers in Indonesia to start their own business.

LOVE Foundation UWA President, Amitabh Jeganathan says it is a fun, innovative way of reintroducing causes outside of Australia after the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic:

“During unsure times we must continue to remember those who are far less fortunate than us and continue to extend the hand of compassion and empathy. This event is a way of reuniting the Western Australian student community to re-mend our broken ties and continue our mission of fighting poverty through the arts”

The line-up will feature Perth artists such as: Josh Ellis, The Worms, Airline Food, Cloud Local, Man Sandal and Noah Dillion.

Josh Ellis: An unsigned Pop and Indie Singer/ Song writer from Perth making a wave within the local gig scene. At only 18 he finds himself playing gigs up to three times a week at local venues all over Perth.

The Worms: A Perth based band currently perfecting a recipe of melodies from the 60’s to present day genres. The 2018 formed band mixes influences from multiple music genres to create a truly authentic mix match of sound.

Airline Food: With variations of music inspirations from the 60’s and 90’s the band’s music produces variation of rock jams and pop.

Cloud Local: A three-piece band originating from Perth with tunes that have both Indie and Rock influences.

Man Sandal: Based in Perth, Man Sandal are a five-piece collective of diverse musicians who are wooing the west with their captivating and unique sound in cities and small towns alike.
