Linkin Park Have A ‘Heavy’ New Single & Fans Are Hating It

We’re ~one step closer~ to Linkin Park‘s brand new album reaching our ear sockets, with the one-time nu metal krew finally announcing the official release date of their seventh LP One More Light. They’ve also given us a sample of what it has to offer, with a brand new tune VERY IRONICALLY dubbed ‘Heavy’ and fans are — well — about to break.

Those of you craving a return to the dynamite combo of Mike Shinoda’s cutting-edge rhymes with Chester Bennington’s fist-in-the-air throat-tearing choruses might want to bite down on something, because this might sting… a lot.

‘Heavy’ is quite possibly the least heavy song that the band (who brought us such masterpiece LPs as Meteora and Hybrid Theory) has ever released. It is, essentially, a dance-pop duet featuring Chester doing a really bad Twenty One Pilots impersonation and trading versus with a random guest pop vocalist by the name of Kiiara.

The tune has been co-written by the pop super-team of Justin Tranter and Julia Michaels, who’ve generated hits for the likes of Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, and Gwen Stefani. And look, we get it. Linkin Park are trying to evolve musically blah blah stay relevant blah blah which is something they have every right to do blah blah. The inherent risk, however, is that they will alienate their core fan base.

But don’t take our word for it, catch some of the internet’s best (worst) reactions to ‘Heavy’ below, and remember — Chester did say the band’s new LP would challenge their fans.

(And don’t forget Chester Bennington left Stone Temple Pilots for this)
