Dead Kennedys Announce ‘Bedtime For Democracy’ Australian Tour
Written by Mike Hohnen on 28th June, 2013
Dead Kennedys, one of the most influential and formative bands to emerge from the hardcore punk rock scene of the 1980s, have announced their well overdue return to Australia on their Bedtime For Democracy tour. The band has some unfinished business here, and has planned a comprehensive list of dates to ensure no-one gets left out.
Informed by their freedom of thought and urge to remain above any form of political or conservative oppression, Dead Kennedys have created a legacy that few have matched. Since their inception the band has released a plethora of albums, both studio releases and live, compilations and plenty of EPs – enough material to sink a ship, basically. This particular tour is inspired by their Bedtime For Democracy album, so expect to hear plenty of tunes from their classic 1986 release.
Of course, Australians are no stranger to their firm, speaker-shattering, DIY ethos. DKs were in town back in 2011 for a well-received run of tour dates, though that tour is simply dwarfed by their recently announced run of dates for this September which contain major cities and regional ones.
