Yak Ales Sydney Barbecue Festival 2016

Saturday 30 January 2016

The Domain, Sydney

The Yaks Sydney Barbecue Festival is all about meat, smoke, summer and good times in Sydney. After the massive success of the inaugural Melbourne Barbecue Festival in February, next year the Yak Ales Barbecue Festival will be rolling in to Sydney as well.

Inspired by the growing popularity of traditional southern style cuisine in Australia, the festival is modelled after the many successful American barbecue festivals staged annually across the United States and will be a celebration of local produce and the great Australian tradition of summer barbecues!

Matt Vitale, Co-founder and Festival Director says, "After the amazing success of our first event in Melbourne, we can't wait to bring the Yak Ales Barbecue Festival to Sydney in the beautiful surrounds of The Domain."

Supported by the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS), the world's largest organisation of barbecue enthusiasts (with over 20,000 members and 450 barbecue contests sanctioned annually), the Yak Ales Sydney and Melbourne Barbecue Festivals are the only events sanctioned by the KCBS in the southern hemisphere. The festival will also feature:

  • barbecue food stalls including some of Sydney's finest pitmasters and culinary talent;
  • barbecue cooking demonstrations by local and international barbecue experts;
  • equipment exhibitors showcasing the latest local and imported barbecue products on the market; and
  • live entertainment and DJs.

The Grand Champion of the Yak Ales Sydney Barbecue Festival cook-off will be invited to represent Australia at internationally renowned barbecue contests in the United States, including the American Royal World Series of Barbecue Invitational, and be in the draw for the prestigious KCBS-run Jack Daniels World Championship Invitational Barbecue.

Those up for the challenge can visit TheYaks.sydneybarbecuefestival.com.au for all information about entering a team.

The KCBS will also be holding barbecue-cooking classes, led by multi-award winning pitmaster Jim Johnson, and KCBS certified barbecue-judging classes, where students will be taught the finer points of what to look for in award-winning competition-style barbecue.

The Yak Ales Sydney Barbecue Festival will be held at The Domain on Saturday 30 January 2016. The full festival program will be released later this year. Visit TheYaks.sydneybarbecuefestival.com.au for more information.
