Party Colombian-style Friday 19 June with THE COLOURS OF COLOMBIA, a tribute to Colombian music with internationally renown Colombian percussionist and gaitero Hugo Salcedo and Soul Macumbia band (SA)!

Experience the many vibrant rhythms of Colombia including Cumbia, Champeta, Salsa, Vallenato, tambores and gaitas from the greatest musical Colombian icons such as Carlos Vives, Joe Arroyo, Juanes, Toto La Momposina and more!

Born in Cartagena de Indias in the Caribbean coast of Colombia, Hugo Salcedo is the ambassador of Colombian music and culture in Australia. With over 25 years in the entertainment industry, Hugo has travelled the world with many Colombian artists including legendary folkloric Colombian icon Toto La Momposina with whom he recorded on the album Pacant , which was nominated for the Latin Grammy Award for Best Traditional Tropical Album in 2002.

Led by Hugo Salcedo, Adelaide based band Soul Macumbia will showcase the unique and diverse traditional Colombian rhythms shaken up with the sounds of today! Get ready for a night of Salsa, Cumbia, Champeta, Vallenato, gaitas, tambores and more!

Plus, dance the night away with DJs Diego Jurado (Bogota, Colombia), DJ Hugo 'El Papi' Salcedo (Cartagena, Colombia) and special guest DJ Chocotate Escobar.

Hugo Salcedo:

Born in Cartagena de Indias in the Caribbean coast of Colombia, Hugo Salcedo is percussionist, gaitero, bandleader, DJ and promoter with over 25 years experience in the entertainment industry. A self-taught musician, Hugo is founder and director of Soul Macumbia and SALCEDO bands in Adelaide, Australia 

Hugo commenced his musical career with traditional Colombian folklore from the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of Colombia which led him to perform in more than 60 countries world-wide with internationally acclaimed folkloric Colombian artist Toto La Momposina, Patakore and Ballet Nacional de Colombia de Sonia Osorio among others. He has since branched out to other Latin genres including Afro-Carribean rhythms and Brazilian Batucada playing the congas, hand percussion, cajon, djembe, and timbales.

Over the years Hugo has performed with the legendary Grammy Award winners Gaiteros de San Jacinto, Wilson Saoko, Tito Puente Jr, Miguel Enriquez, Sidestepper, Celina Gonzalez, Ivan Villazon and has shared the stage with Grupo Niche, Willie Colon, Fonseca, Jose Feliciano, Omara Portuondo and Angelique Kidjo.

Hugo recorded on the album Pacant with Toto La Momposina, which was nominated for the Latin Grammy Award for Best Traditional Tropical Album in 2002 and is currently working on his first album with Soul Macumbia band.

As well as his successful musical career, Hugo is considered one of the most influential figures in the Latin industry in Australia. Since relocating to Australia in 1999, he has worked tirelessly to promote Latin culture through music, events and dance. He runs educational musical workshops in schools across Adelaide, teaches Latin dance and organises regular live music and dance events.

Whether he is playing with his band, DJ'ing or teaching dance, Hugo is dedicated to sharing his passion for all things Latino and music.
