Event Details

Twice winner of the prestigious BBC Jazz Awards for best vocalist, Ian Shaw, the London based singer and consummate showman, finally tours Australia. With a string of US and UK recorded albums and collaborations with the likes of Quincy Jones, Van Morrison, Claire Martin, Cleo Laine, Kenny Wheeler, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kurt Elling, he has toured with Abdullah Ibrahim, The Boston Pops and Cedar Walton, as well as solo (he plays piano too) and with his own band. A regular headline draw at London's iconic Ronnie Scott's (he also presents their worldwide radio show) Shaw has regularly toured the US and Canada.

For these Australian tour dates, Shaw is hooking up with ace local trios to present his eclectic, soulful swinging mix of songs from Porter and Sondheim to new arrangements of Bowie and Joni Mitchell and tonight at The Basement Ian is joined by a trio led by the dynamic Jonathan Zwartz on bass with Matt McMahon on piano and Tim Firth on drums.

"Praised far and wide as the single greatest male jazz singer the United Kingdom has to offer." - Jazz Times (US)

"With or without competition, the qualities of Shaw's singing are first rate" - The Los Angeles Times (US)

"He has few rivals" - The Sunday Times (UK)

"An artist on top of his game" - Jazzwise (UK)
