Event Details

Hear My Eyes are thrilled to announce the details of their first 'Film + Live Score' event of 2016

After a busy year in 2015 that featured their debut, sell-out show at the Howler Theatre, a collaboration with SpeakEasy Cinema at Grey Gardens and an 'official selection' from the Lorne Film Festival that incorporated Hear My Eyes as the festival's Opening Night Gala event, the creative arts organisation are returning to Howler to bring us another exciting event.

For those who need to be brought up to speed, Hear My Eyes screenings are experimental, audiovisual experiences that push the conventions of film and sound beyond their traditional forms. Each event consists of the screening of a film paired with an original score performed live by local musicians.

This time around, Melbourne duo Ella Thompson & Graeme Pogson, aka GL, will perform their distinctive concoction of 80's analogue synth pop to Xavier Dolan's heavily stylized, visual delight - Heartbeats. The event will be held in the theatre space at Howler, Brunswick on the 3rd of March.

FILM: Heartbeats directed by Xavier Dolan

"Some might not be yet acquainted with 26-year-old Qu b cois director Xavier Dolan. But at the Cannes Film Festival, where the wunderkind won the Jury Prize last year for his fifth featureMommy, Dolan is a bit of a god" - Vanity Fair

A love triangle is formed and friendship turns to romantic rivalry for gay man Francis and straight woman Marie when a veritable Adonis named Nicolas enters their lives. Sexual tensions mount as Francis and Marie await Nicolas' show of preference. Xavier Dolan's second film, happily under the influence of Godard, Audrey Hepburn, and Wong Kar-wai, is a study of the fall into love. Laced with humorous insights and unleased passion, we follow each stage of the typical love story's progress.

"Splashy colors, oddball framing and super-cool threads supply the picture's bizarre love triangle with a dance-club atmosphere that'll seduce young audiences of most any orientation" - Variety

"Delightful and insightful romantic comedy" - Wall Street Journal

Live Score performed by: GL

Layering sultry disco vocals over intricately textured production, GL have cultivated their own evocative sound that is constantly reaching for the cosmos. Facilitating a revival of the synth-laden sound of the 80s, the duo's lush blend of neon-lit pop instantly enchanted fans and industry insiders alike.

Hand-picked to support the likes of Chet Faker, Shamir and Saskwatch, GL have also landed spots at some of the country's most illustrious festivals, with performances at Splendour in the Grass, Meredith Music Festival, Falls Festival & OutsideIn. Tunes such as 'Take Me Back', 'What Happened to Us?' and 'Number One' are as comfortable spinning alongside boogie classics as they are on the modern airwaves.
