MIRIAM LIEBERMAN TRIO

For Folk Sake is honoured to host Miriam Lieberman for the first time.

Miriam Lieberman's albums are soulful collections of stories, beautifully told through strings, the African kora and Lieberman’s unmistakable voice. Amongst the themes her songs relate a love for the natural world, stories of transformation, motherhood, love, loss and the power of imagination. The music is coloured by her journeys - from Guinea and Mali, where she studied the kora – a west-African harp with a beautiful, evocative tone – to India and Latin America.

The trio players, Lara Goodridge ( Baby et Lulu/ Four Play) and Susie Bishop (Chaika) add luscious vocal harmonies, soaring violin arrangements. Together the trio offer a powerful feminine sound.

“Her songs are beautifully melodic, richly textured but can have pointed themes…. Simply brilliant" 4.5 stars, Jeff Glorfeld, The Age

“‘Infinite We Are’ is an enthralling, intoxicating piece of blissful wonder” – Rolling Stone

"When Miriam Lieberman sings “lay your burden down” on this album’s first song, 'Infinite We Are', it is as much a gentle exhortation as it is a call to arms. With its palette of celestial strings, lush harmonies, twinkling piano arpeggios and soft indie beats, there is a hypnotic, ever-shifting quality to Lieberman’s work that gives the impression that “transforming” is not something that frightens her “ - 4.5 Stars, Jessie Cunniffe Spectrum SMH - 18th June 2021

WE MAVERICKS

We Mavericks make a welcome return to For Folk Sake in 2022.

Bringing dynamic originals, entertaining stories and incredible energy, this new duo packs emotional punches but provide songs to heal the scars.

Originally from the NSW Riverina and NZ respectively, Lindsay Martin’s masterful strings and vocals meet songstress Victoria Vigenser’s magnificent voice and driving rhythms in a connection that is hard to describe. They're known already for uniquely gritty, evocative songs and some muscle-twitching tunes, with echoes of their love for rootsy Americana and Celtic traditional music amongst the harmonies.

Their steep rise on the Australasian festival circuit has seen the duo nominated “Best Contemporary Duo/Group/Ensemble” - 2021 Australian Folk Music Awards, “Best Folk Artist 2020” in the NZ Music Awards, and recipients of Australia’s Troubadour Foundation Award 2020.

THE PEPPERCORNS

The Peppercorns trio combine a wealth of musical influences on their bluegrass, cajun and old-timey inspired folk tunes.

Ex-West Australian pilgrims Lara Norman and Craig Sinclair weave guitar, mandolin, violin and spine-tingling vocal harmonies on a mix of original and traditional material, with Jed Wesley-Smith (upright bass) providing the rumble and groove to get you moving.

Having delighted audiences on the west coast for the past decade in a duo format, the Peppercorns trio are set to bring their unique sound to the Petersham Bowling Club in a special For Folk Sake show.

THE VENUE

The Petersham Bowling Club is a family friendly venue in Sydney's inner west that supports live music with gusto and is proudly pokie free. Run by local volunteers who keep the veggie patch colourful and cold glasses overflowing, the heart and soul of Petersham is at 77 Brighton St and has an interesting story. We are proud to support this iconic venue and keep the disco ball spinning.
