Operating firmly within funeral doom's boundaries of tempo and mood, Mournful Congregation create their ominous opuses with pristinely recorded instruments, varied and original vocal styles, and a sense of song craft that extends well beyond the ordinary.
Mournful Congregation layer slithery guitar harmonies over sparse drumming, vocalize in whispers, spoken word and male choirs along with doom grunting and weave a variety of clean and acoustic guitar sounds into the dense doomy riffing, creating an atmosphere that is more about the beauty of darkness than the bleakness of despair.
Having garnered a cult status in the underground from a career spanning over 20 years, Mournful Congregation have toured extensively throughout Europe and the USA, performing at prestigious festivals such as Roadburn, Heavy Days in Doomtown, Martyrdoom, Stella Natura and Roskilde.
Now as they prepare to record their fifth studio album, the follow-up to 2011's "The Book of Kings", Mournful Congregation are scheduled for three rare and exclusive Australian appearances before returning to the USA in August to headline the inaugural Migration Festival in Olympia, Washington.
Beginning proceedings in their home city of Adelaide, the mini-tour will see the band's first live appearance in Melbourne since 2009, and the first time in Sydney since the Evil Invaders Festival in 2012.
